Sziget Festival 2026 runs from Tuesday, August 11 to Saturday, August 15 on Hajogyari-sziget, also known as Obuda Island, in Budapest. The full timetable is now available, so this is the point to stop planning around the poster and build a daily schedule around actual set times.

The practical side of Sziget lives on a phone. The official app carries the schedule and alerts, BudapestGO handles journey planning and digital transport tickets, and the festival is cashless. Set those up before arrival, but keep the important parts offline. A flat battery, crowded network, or lost phone should not take your ticket, route home, and payment backup with it.

When and where is Sziget Festival 2026?

Sziget Festival takes place from August 11 to 15, 2026 on Hajogyari-sziget in Budapest's District III. The main program runs Tuesday through Saturday, while some camping, wristband, and departure services operate outside those dates. Check the official festival account for the time attached to your own ticket.

Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi, Twenty One Pilots, Bring Me The Horizon, Zara Larsson, Skrillex, Jorja Smith, Peggy Gou, and many more artists appear across the five days. The point of Sziget is not to spend the whole week at one stage, though. The 2026 program includes electronic music, Hungarian acts, contemporary circus, dance, theatre, and the new Jardin des Arts district.

Which apps should you download before Sziget?

Download the official Sziget app and BudapestGO before leaving home. Add Bolt only if you expect to use a taxi, and save the Budapest area in Google Maps or Apple Maps for basic offline navigation. Sign in and test each app while you still have reliable WiFi.

Sziget app

The official Sziget app lets you browse artists and venues, build a personal schedule, and turn on event notifications. Its store listing also describes maps and wristband tools. The festival web page still marks some map and wristband functions as coming soon, so install the latest version and check which features are active before you rely on them.

Create your personal schedule now. Leave time to cross the island, refill water, eat, and find the correct entrance to a venue. A day with six tightly packed sets may look efficient on screen and feel miserable by the third walk across the site.

Turn on official safety and schedule notifications. The app can send location-specific public safety messages when you allow location access. You can decide whether that permission is worth it, but you should keep some route for receiving official alerts.

BudapestGO

BudapestGO is the official BKK app for routes, tickets, travelcards, and passes. A digital ticket is not ready merely because it appears in the app. BKK requires validation for single and time-based tickets, usually by scanning the code or using the NFC sticker before boarding or entering a station.

BKK also says an active mobile data connection is required to purchase, use, and verify mobile tickets. That makes a paper ticket, a valid pass, or a contactless Pay&GO option a sensible fallback. Take a screenshot of the planned route, but do not treat a screenshot of a digital ticket as a valid ticket.

Bolt and offline maps

Sziget names Bolt as an official taxi partner. Book inside the app and use the official pickup area rather than accepting an offer from a driver who approaches you. At peak departure times, public transport may still be faster than waiting for a car near the island.

Download an offline map of Budapest and save your accommodation as a favorite. Offline maps do not carry live service changes, but they can still get you from an unfamiliar street to a staffed station, hotel, or agreed meeting point.

How do you get to Sziget Festival?

The usual public transport route is the H5 suburban railway to Filatorigat, followed by the signed walk to the entrance. H5 services leave from Batthyany ter and pass Margit hid, both useful connections from central Budapest. Use BudapestGO on the day because event service levels and temporary arrangements can change.

Buy the correct ticket and validate it before travel. BKK's ordinary single tickets cover one uninterrupted journey, while time-based tickets allow transfers within their validity when each required transfer is validated. A travelcard or pass may be simpler if you will move between the city and festival several times.

The H Bridge is closed to pedestrians and cyclists. Follow the current festival signs rather than a saved route that tries to send you across it. Bikes and scooters cannot enter the festival area and should be left at the K Bridge storage.

From Budapest Airport

Bus 100E runs between Liszt Ferenc International Airport and Deak Ferenc ter. It uses a special airport fare, not an ordinary city single ticket. BKK currently allows a lower-priced add-on ticket for holders of certain valid Budapest, Pest County, or Hungary passes; check the current 100E rules before buying.

From the city center, continue by metro or tram toward an H5 connection. Do not plan a tight airport-to-headliner transfer. Baggage, ticket collection, the island walk, and security all take time even when the transport itself runs normally.

From the city after the final set

Check the return route before entering the festival, then check it again when you still have data and battery. Save two options: H5 plus a city connection, and an official taxi pickup point. Agree on a meeting place outside the thickest exit crowd if your group plans to leave together.

The official site has previously listed extra night buses and boat transfers, but some detailed pages still display older festival dates. Is it better to camp or stay in Budapest?

Camping keeps you inside the festival and removes the late-night commute. A hotel or apartment gives you a quieter shower, proper sleep, and easier access to Budapest, but you will make the H5 journey every day. Neither choice is automatically better.

Choose camping if the continuous festival atmosphere matters more than comfort and you have the correct camping ticket. Choose the city if you want sleep, air conditioning, and time away from the site. If you stay off-island, accommodation near an H5 connection can save more time than a cheaper room that requires several changes.

A one-day ticket can still work well. Pick two or three priorities, add one smaller venue you would not normally choose, and leave gaps. Trying to cover the whole island in one evening mostly produces walking and missed starts.

How does cashless payment work at Sziget?

Sziget is cashless. You can pay with a contactless bank card, a compatible phone or watch, or a wristband balance. The wristband can be topped up through the festival account, the app when that function is available, or a Festipay point.

The refund method depends on how you added money. According to the official 2026 festival information, money loaded at an on-site point must be claimed at the Festipay kiosk or helpdesk by noon on August 16. Online top-ups are returned to the original card within 30 days, less a HUF 700 refund fee. Read the live terms before loading a large amount.

Carry one physical payment card separately from the phone. Mobile wallets can work without general web browsing, but the phone can still run out of power, lock after a restart, or be lost. A second card is a cleaner backup than putting every payment method in the same device.

What can you bring, and what should you pack?

The festival permits one PET bottle containing up to 2.5 liters of water or another non-alcoholic drink, plus empty plastic jugs. It also permits food in a non-commercial quantity. Alcohol, energy drinks, glass, umbrellas, pyrotechnics, gas equipment, weapons, and several other items are prohibited. For a day visitor, pack:

What safety and accessibility help is available?

Sziget lists medical staff, first aid, Szitizen Care Points, a Crisis Point, and welfare support on site. Save the festival information page and note the nearest care point once the current map is available. If somebody becomes unwell, get help from staff instead of trying to solve a medical problem in a group chat.

Hungary applies strict drug laws to visitors as well as residents. The festival warns that possession, use, and sale can lead to arrest and serious legal consequences. Do not treat advice from an old forum thread as an exception to current Hungarian law.

For disabled visitors, Accessible Sziget lists Easy XS Camping, accessible toilets and showers, a Main Stage viewing area, wheelchair rental, assistance for visually impaired visitors, and transport from Nyugati station. Some extra services require 24 hours' notice, and Easy XS Camping requires registration and proof of disability. Arrange these before travel rather than at the gate.

Solo visitors should set one check-in time with somebody off-site, keep the accommodation address offline, and use official taxi or public transport routes. Do you need an eSIM or mobile data at Sziget?

You do not need an eSIM specifically, but you do need a workable plan for the apps and digital transport tickets you choose to use. An eSIM cannot create capacity in a crowded mobile cell. Service may slow near a headline stage even when the phone shows 4G or 5G. Is festival WiFi reliable enough for work or study?

Do not plan an important meeting, deadline, or exam around festival WiFi. Public WiFi and mobile data can both slow under load, and quiet work space is not guaranteed. Finish essential work before entering, or use a proper workspace in the city with enough time to travel back.

Can you travel safely back to a city hotel at night?

Yes, many visitors stay in Budapest and use H5 or an official taxi. Check the route before the final set, keep enough battery for the mobile ticket, and use the official taxi pickup point. Solo travelers should share their route and avoid accepting rides offered outside the app.

How strict are security checks?

Security staff check for prohibited items, and a previous visitor's experience does not change the published rules. Bring photo ID, use a small organized bag, and read the current food, drink, container, and equipment restrictions before leaving your accommodation.

What happens if the group gets separated?

Choose a precise meeting point and two check-in times before the first crowded set. Save them as a note or screenshot on every phone. Live location can freeze when data slows, so do not make it the only way to find one another.
